Star Wars posters series

Well... why not?  Click to see larger versions.

The Star Wars models I downloaded from the internet over the years are a much higher quality than the 2001 models. I think that has a lot to do with the fans being so numerous and picky about  authenticity. Another factor has to be the age difference between the two properties. I have a feeling many of the 2001 models were made closer to the beginning of the home computer revolution while the Star Wars models are more recent. The models based on the Kubrick film seem to be super simple as if they were made for less powerful processors and with older 3D software. So there was some playing with textures but the overall geometry and details were spot on in most cases making the poster process much faster.

While I think the layout is good, I find the white background a little odd. It works with R2 but the rest feel a little more like stickers without a black or space background. It think the layout is really iconic, much like the movies themselves and the ships you chose. Certainly the posters need nothing more than just that title which was a brilliant bit of typography. Well done. Just not sure I like the white.

I chose the white to counter the black star field of the 2001 images, so maybe that wasn't the best reason to chose it. I do like a stark white to isolate the ship details. The logo is actually the second logo for the film, the first was shaped a little like a pyramid and had stars inside it. I drew that one as well and then decided I just did not like it!

Just came back from a ride and it occurred to me why I wanted white. I was thinking more like architectural drawings after I rendered the star destroyers with lot of line details. These might look pretty cool as blue architectural drawings!

They might indeed! Give them a sense of being built or something of the same. I'd forgotten that original logo but remember it now. I think they were wise to stick with the one they did. You should keep making these if only to flex those graphic design muscles. And sometimes you get fans to look and then they look at other work, too.

I used to think that I could get my stuff shown on I09. But that never happened andI did try. I should try the blue architectural drawing idea, jsut to see how it looks. I culd even combine the two, have a fade from one to the other.
