Jack-O- Lantern (Citrouille) digital painting

This time I tried something with more dimension to it than a leaf. Painted mostly in Krita with some touching up in Affinity Photo. The actual pumpkin had more bumpiness to its skin, much more than I did here.I don't have the skills to pull that kind of detail off. It looks like what it is supposed to be so that's something. It just doesn't look exactly like the actual object I panted it from. I should not judge it on that criteria maybe since photorealistic is not what I'm trying to do. Still I would like to learn how to paint the sort of highly textured detail as I go along.

I think it looks pretty cool and kudos to you for trying something with a lot more dimension. If you aren't satisfied with your skills for surface detail, why not take this opportunity to look into it? I think you're making real progress with these. Keep going!

I took oil painting lessons when I was a kid and did some acrylic painting over the years and some water-colour but never did enough to get past the most basic skills. I don't hate this, I think it has some depth and the colours look good. Toby says I need ot forget the details and loosen up!

Loosening up has been a struggle all my artistic career. I'm getting better at it these days. Should post some of the sketches used for Drawtober. Sometimes being able to zoom in makes this a lot worse. I know some digital artists that never zoom it. It's all done at 100%.

The zooming in thing is a good point. I sued to use a magnifying glass in my ink on paper day but there is something to be said for just keeping some distance and restricting your view to the overall image.
